No doubt the Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Anthony Finn, can take a certain degree of pride in his position, but is he aware of the problems in the borough?

I am fortunate enough to live just across the border in Camden, but my nearest shopping area is Cricklewood Lane and I go there via Oak Grove.

It is the filthiest street I have ever had the misfortune to need to walk down.

The same litter stays for weeks, gutters clogged with rubbish, glass, plastic bags and empty beer cans. There are overflowing rubbish bins and discards from the Cricklewood garage. It is so awful, it makes me want to cry with the sheer ugliness of the place.

By comparison, Fordwych Road is spotless and Camden cleaners maintain its appearance. Welcome to Barnet? I don’t think so.
