BORIS Johnson has named Beaufort Park as the best new place to live in London at a planning awards ceremony.

The 25 acre former RAF Hendon aerodrome, which has been developed into five apartment blocks with shops, restaurants and parkland, won the prize at the London Planning Awards.

Presenting the award, Deputy Mayor of London Sir Simon Milton praised the development as having been “carefully put together with many partners” and for “ticking all the boxes”.

Councillor Richard Cornelius, Barnet cabinet member for housing, planning and regeneration, said: “The London Borough of Barnet is thrilled that the mayor has recognised what has been achieved at Beaufort Park.

“Barnet is committed to building quality homes and the mayor supports the views of the hundreds of people who have voted with their feet and moved in to Beaufort Park.”

The judging panel highlighted that 42 per cent of the homes are affordable and 97 per cent are lifetime homes, which they said along with parkland, courtyards, shops, bars and restaurants had transformed the area.

Ross Faragher, managing director of developers St George Central London said: “We are delighted to receive this recognition from the Mayor of London, and are very proud that this accreditation has been awarded to Beaufort Park.

“This success is the result of our strong relationship with the London Borough of Barnet and we look forward to continuing to work with the borough to deliver the forthcoming phases of this exciting new mixed-use development.”
