A GROUP of environmentalists donned David Cameron masks on Saturday as part of an event calling for tougher targets for the amount of rubbish being sent to landfill.

People from Barnet and Enfield Friends of the Earth joined forces outside the Spires shopping centre in High Barnet to raise awareness of environmental issues.

They are asking for a 50 per cent cut in the amount of black bag waste sent to tips by 2020, but say they fear Government targets due to be released soon will not be as stringent.

They say if their calls are listened to waste handling sites at the new Brent Cross Cricklewood development and the proposed Pinkham Way site could be scaled back.
