A NURSE has been suspended for 18 months whilst he faces allegations over abusing a vulnerable resident at a care home in Cricklewood.

Joshy Thomas has been found guilty of abusing an elderly mentally infirm (EMI) patient and putting her at risk by moving her on his own after she had fallen out of bed at Lansdowne Care Home in Claremont Road on April 24 2008.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council’s conduct and competence committee also found Mr Thomas guilty of refusing to send a care assistant to accompany the patient to hospital in an ambulance, and of falling asleep whilst he was the only nurse on duty in a unit accommodating vulnerable EMI patients.

On Thursday September 29 the panel concluded an interim order was necessary to protect patients, and the case was adjourned.

When a full hearing commences, Mr Thomas will face further allegations for pointing his finger close to the patients face, telling her to “shut up”, or words to that effect, and falling asleep whilst working night shifts on a regular basis.
