Three Barnet school pupils planted trees in honour of the Queen's Jubilee, last week.
Archie Bigg-Wither, Shivas Patel and Luke Hutchinson, who attend Christ Church Primary School, in Byng Road and are all members of The Boys' Brigade in Barnet, planted varieties of hawthorne, dogwood and an oak tree in their school’s garden on Friday.
Named Jack’s Garden, the green space was created in memory of pupil Jack Brown, who died in 2009 following a two-year battle with Neuroblastoma, a type of cancerous tumour which develops in the nerve cells.
The trees were donated by the Woodland Trust in honour of the Queen’s Jubilee and the location of the wood itself will go into the Jubilee Woods register, a document containing a list of all trees planted to mark the Jubilee.
A bound copy of this register will be given to the Queen, and another will be held in the British Library.
The last time a similar scheme was arranged was during the Queen’s Coronation, and the Baptist Church in Mays Lane contains one of the Coronation Woods.
Members of the public interested in planting their own Jubilee Wood can get in touch with the Woodland Trust to receive free trees and shrubs.
