A collection of designs used to decorate British homes over the past 100 years is to be made available online.

The Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture in Colindale holds a collection dating back to the late 1800s which it hopes will inspire designers all over the world once they can view them on the internet.

The museum, which is part of Middlesex University, and which is based in Beaufort Park, holds items including wallpaper, textiles, books and magazines.

Museum curator Zoe Hendon said: “The museum’s new approach to sharing its collections is to make them available to students, researchers and members of the public in new ways, online on tour and on request.

“The new website has been specifically designed to showcase the museum’s collections, and to make them more accessible to everyone.

“We have recently moved to a new physical location in Colindale and even before the launch of the new website we’ve been seeing more interest than ever before.

“The new website will only add to this, and see new audiences able to access this amazing collection.”

The new website, www.moda.mdx.ac.uk, was designed by redLoop, Middlesex University’s design and innovation centre.
