Pupils in a Mill Hill school did their bit for charity yesterday in an annual summer fair.

Children at July Goodwyn School in Hammers Lane took part in the fair to raise cash for bereavement charity Grief Encounter and Meningitus Research.

The fair, which was planned for outside, was held in the school hall because of the poor weather.

However, children failed to let the rain dampen their spirits, and spent the afternoon playing games such as lucky dip and guessing how many sweets are in a jar.

Children also were asked to name a unicorn and a teddy bear, with the most original name winning the toy. Names including Sparkle, Snowy and Britney are in the running for the toy unicorn.

Rekha Essex, chair of the of Friends of Goodwyn Committee who helped organise the event, said, "We are delighted to be able to split the profits from this year's Goodwyn Summer Fayre between local child bereavement charity Grief Encounter and Meningitus Research.

“Children at Goodwyn School in Mill Hill have benefited from the services of both these worthwhile charities and we look forward to a very successful event."

The amount of money raised and the winners of the naming competitions are yet to be announced.
