Queen Elizabeth’s School, Barnet, has just announced its best A-Level results ever.
The all-boys school saw the proportion of A* to B grades achieved by students rise above 98 per cent for the first time.
In 2011 97.7 per cent of grades were A* to B and today’s results show that 98.5 per cent of grades fell within this category.
Neil Enright, who became headmaster in September last year, said: “I am extremely proud of our Year 13 students; their hard work and dedication has been well rewarded.
“To have improved significantly on last year’s very good results is a formidable achievement, particularly at a time when examination boards nationally have taken steps to end ‘grade inflation’.
“At QE we unashamedly promote excellence throughout the school; competition is at the very heart of what we do.
“I believe our excellent academic results can be directly attributed to the combination of our meritocratic ethos with a balanced curriculum that plays to the strengths of boys.”
Of the 145 students who received A-Level results today 26 have offers from Oxford or Cambridge.
All of the school’s Year 13 students are either going to university this year or are taking a gap year.
Among Queen Elizabeth’s success stories is Alex Liangas, 18, of Edgware who gained A*s in maths, further maths and chemistry, as well as an A in physics.
Mr Liangas will now go to Girton College, Cambridge, to read natural sciences.
He said: “I am so grateful to my teachers, without them I would never had had the same opportunities.”
