Barnet chairman Tony Kleanthous remains adamant the club have been “ushered” out of the borough despite comments from the leader of Barnet Council Richard Cornelius.

The Bees played their final match at Underhill – their home of 106 years - on Saturday and will play at The Hive in Harrow next season.

Supporters have made their feelings clear on the move and have launched a ‘Back 2 Barnet' campaign to bring the club back to the borough.

The League Two side have been involved in a long-running dispute with Barnet Council over the future of Underhill.

Kleanthous says the council have forced the club to relocate. He claims the council have offered a 15-year extension on the lease at Underhill with a “backdated rent increase at over four times the current rent” in addition to a six-figure license fee.

The Bees chairman added: “I am sure he (Cornelius) was very disappointed to see us go while he was sipping his Pimms and putting his feet up in his garden celebrating a job well done.

“The fact is that he ushered us out of the borough while welcoming Saracens.

“They were given the keys to Copthall while we were pushed out of the back door.”

Cornelius says he is disappointed Barnet had decided to leave the borough after more than a century at Underhill and added: “The council has always been happy to extend the lease and the land on the proviso this is for football purposes only.”
