THREE men from Barnet have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after their car collided with a policeman on a motorcycle.

A 26-year-old man and two other men are in custody at a north London police station following the collision between the Yamaha TDM900 and their silver Volkswagon Passat.

The accident happened in Teignmouth Gardens, Perivale, at around 9.30pm last night.

Officers, the ambulance service and the air ambulance all attended but the 37-year-old officer died at the scene.

Next of kin have been informed and the officer’s family are being supported by a family liaison officer.

A post mortem will take place shortly.

It is understood the constable, based with the Traffic Operational Command Unit, had finished work and was making his way home on his own motorcycle when the accident happened.

He was travelling west in Teignmouth Gardens when his bike collided with the car, which was travelling east.

The driver of the car ran from the scene before police arrived.

Two women passengers remained at the scene and were later arrested on suspicion of obstructing police.

They were bailed to return to a west London police station in mid-June, pending further inquiries.

An inquiry has been launched by officers from the Collision Investigation Unit at Hampton. Any witnesses can contact them on 020-8941 9011 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
