Crystal Palace players are joining the global fight against hunger this Christmas by swapping shirts for charity against Huddersfield on Saturday.

The club has agreed to replace the GAC sponsor logo on players' shirts with a promotion for the UN's World Food Programme (WFP).

WFP is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide.  Each year, on average, the programme feeds more than 90 million people in more than 70 countries. Much of the food cargo is transported around the world by shipping and logistics giant GAC.

Greg Barrow, UK head of WFP, said: "This is a powerful, charitable gesture by Crystal Palace and their main sponsor, GAC.

"We’re always looking for more supporters to help us to continue our work on the frontlines of hunger, and this is a great opportunity to tap into a new fan base at a great football club."

The match, which kicks off at 5.20pm on Saturday, is live on Sky Sports.

After the game the shirts will be signed by each player and auctioned with all proceeds going to WFP. Details will be published on www.cpfc.co.uk.

  • WFP works in more than seventy countries across the world, providing food to more than 90 million people every year – many of them recovering from natural disasters such as floods, droughts, and earthquakes.  In recent years, the agency has been at the forefront of the humanitarian response to emergencies such as the Haiti earthquake, floods in Pakistan, and the drought that brought famine to parts of the Horn of Africa region in 2011.
