An eight-year-old author could win his height in books in a 500 words competition.

Zak Citron, who attends Rosh Pinah Primary School on Glengall road, Edgware, has reached the final stage of the BBC Radio 2 500 words competition.

His story The Pickling Pirate is one of only 50 out of 123,000 stories that have been shortlisted for the finals, which will be held at Shakespeare's Globe theatre in London on May 27.

If selected in the top two, Zak will win the equivalent of TV presenters Chris Evans and Alex Jones’ height in books.

Third place winners will walk away with their own height in books.

This year’s judges include Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cornwall, Storyteller Malorie Blackman, authors Frank Cottrell-Boyce and Francesca Simon and actor Charlie Higson.
