ADULT social care will be under the spotlight as services struggle to keep up with growing demand.

Barnet residents will be quizzed on the future delivery of adult social care by the council over concerns the system needs to grow while also saving money.

Chairman of adults and safeguarding committee councillor Sachin Rajput said there would be 12 weeks of consultation open to the public from May 16.

He said: “We have already significantly changed the way we run our adult social care services to make sure they are as effective as possible.”

“However, despite these changes, the council is now approaching the limit of savings that can be achieved, which is why we need to consider a new way of working which will help people to live as independently as possible with the right support network.

"We will also need to organise the way that we work differently.”

The changes being introduced will mean savings of £1.96m between 2017-18 and 2019-20 which will contribute towards the adults and safeguarding committee’s total savings of £18.5m between 2016-17 and 2019-20.

Other proposals being considered include encouraging people to visit local community hubs to receive support with two hubs being piloted at St Andrews Medical Practice in Whetstone and Hendon Citizens Advice Bureau.
