A MAN from Golders Green has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a fatal collision with an off-duty policeman on a motorcycle.

Liron Shnaider, 26, of Stanley House, Finchley Road, will appear at Brent Magistrates' Court on April 25.

He has also been charged with failing to stop at the scene of a personal injury.

Police Constable Chris Dent, 36, died after his Yamaha TDM900 collided with a silver Volkswagon Passat in Teignmouth Gardens, Perivale, at around 9.30pm on Wednesday.

He was married and had two young children from a previous marriage.

Two men, who fled the scene with Mr Shnaider, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

They have been bailed to return in mid-May pending further inquiries.

PC Dent’s family have been informed and are being supported by a family liasion officer.

A post-mortem began at 2pm today at Uxbridge mortuary.

Chief Superintendent David Snelling, of the traffic operational command unit (OCU) at Alperton, said: "All our deepest sympathies are with Chris's family, friends and colleagues at this distressing time.

"Chris was a very conscientious, hard working officer, who always had a smile on his face. He was very popular and was in his dream role as a traffic officer.

“He loved this important part of police work."

PC Dent, a motorcycle officer based with the OCU, had been with the Metropolitan traffic police for about five years, having previously served with the Thames Valley Police, and formerly in the army in the Royal Artillery.

He had finished work and was making his way home on his own motorcycle when the collision occurred.

Two women passengers remained in the car and were later arrested on suspicion of obstructing police.

They were bailed to return to a west London police station in mid-June, pending further inquiries.

An inquiry has been launched by officers from the Collision Investigation Unit at Hampton. Anyone with information about the incident can call the unit on 020-8941 9011 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
