THEATRE lovers are being given the chance to experience the best West End shows following the formation of a coach club for the borough.

Hendon Theatre Club has been organised by a two friends with a passion for performance, and they hope to offer regular outings for people wanting to go and see the latest stage hits.

Joint founder Marion Dean, of Great North Way, said she and friend Lynda Schama wanted to provide a safe and comfortable service for those who may find it difficult getting into central London.

She said: “We wanted to do something in Hendon, but not exclusively for the people of Hendon, it is for anyone who wants to go to the theatre.

“Some people don't want to go by Tube or pay a lot for a Taxi. I'm sure there are enough people who will appreciate the chance to get into the West End on a coach.

“I think there will be a social aspect to it as well. Some people wouldn't want to go on public transport alone at night because they might feel vulnerable.”

Mrs Dean, who is a director of Theatretrain, a performance arts school for young people, believes the new club will help introduce theatre to people who may not have considered going along before.

She said: “I do know quite a lot about theatre. I have organised trips for my pupils so I thought it would be nice to offer a similar service to the public.

“Anyone can come on these trips. I think they will be ideal for single people who don't like going alone or elderly couples who enjoy the theatre.

“There is nothing around Hendon like this at all. It will be something for the community and it comes with a personal touch, which you don't often see nowadays." /p>

The first accompanied outing will be on October 27 to see The Country Girl, starring Martin Shaw and Jenny Seagrove, at the Apollo Theatre, in Shaftesbury Avenue.
