POLICE are appealing to the public for help in catching a pervert who attacked a teenage girl in her Grahame Park Estate home.

The 14-year-old was alone at the house in Linklea Close, on Tuesday, August 10, when she heard a knock at the door at about 2.20pm and found the suspect on the doorstep.

He asked if her parents were home and when she told him they weren't, he asked if he could have some paper to write his phone number to call him when they got home.

She left the front door open and went to get the paper, but heard the door close and found the man standing in her living room.

The man, aged between 18 to 21, pulled her onto the sofa, put his hand over his mouth and tried to pull down her leggings, but fled when she managed to scream.

Detective Constable Mike Harper, of the Sapphire sex crime unit, said: “This was a very frightening assault on a young girl in her own home.

“I would urge anyone who saw a man matching the description of the suspect hanging around the area of Linklea Close, or anyone with information, to come forward.

"I would also like to reassure people incidents of this nature are rare, but understandably can cause great concern.”

The attacker is described as a mixed race black man, of slim build, 5ft 8ins tall, wearing a black hoodie with the hood up, a black beanie hat, a black scarf covering his mouth and nose, black gloves, blue jeans and black plimsole type trainers.

A 33-year old male, who was arrested on Wednesday, August 18 on suspicion of attempted rape, has been bailed to return to a north London police station on a date in November pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to call DC Mike Harper on 020 8733 5062.
