Barnet’s new Youth Parliament members were announced last night.
Nadine Jerashy, 15, from The Compton School, and Sogand Shaker, 17, from Dame Alice Owen’s School, were elected.
Temi Mwale, 16, from the London Academy, and Nicholas Lucas, 17, from St Michael’s Catholic Grammar, were chosen as Barnet’s deputy members of Youth Parliament.
All four will take part in the UK Youth Parliament during the year, as well as working with Barnet Youth Board to represent young people.
Thirty-one young people stood for election, and there were more than 8000 votes cast, with a 24 per cent voter turnout.
This was the second time Barnet has taken part in the UKYP elections which were started in 2000.
The UKYP is run by young people giving them the chance to share their opinions on issues ranging from the cost of university education to jobs.
Councillor Andrew Harper said: “The UK Youth Parliament gives our younger residents an opportunity to take a leading role in their local community and make their voices heard.
“I look forward to working closely with our two new members and their deputies and I hope they will find the experience as rewarding as last year’s MYPs.”
