I am writing regarding two letters printed in the Times Series (‘Sort out this housing crisis’ and ‘Don’t build on leisure space’, Your Views, August 21).

There is not one line in both of these letters that I can dispute.

All that is wrong in Barnet starts here. But it gets worse if you travel around the borough.

Everywhere there is jerry building and demolition. Dirt and debris is all about. Traffic is heavy and gridlocked by rubbish and skip trucks, and almost every other type of commercial vehicle on our already overcrowded roads. I should like to say it reminds me of East Berlin, but first you need roads that are not cart tracks.

You may not have liked the police there, but unlike Barnet, it did not rely on one sole lady struggling to cover an area on her tod and on foot.

Neither were the streets at night places to risk your safety in anything other than locked cars or groups And watch out when driving for the lunatic in the other car who clearly cannot read or doesn’t care.

How many recognise this borough as a place to be proud of?

Or how many like me feel it is time to get together and really put a stop to this instead of just wringing hands and hoping for the best?

It will be interesting to see responses.
