It’s terrific news that Barnet is set to become the most populated borough in London for the first time (‘Growing population’, Barnet & Potters Bar Times, February 5).

Residents of Barnet are as tolerant as they are diverse. People of all backgrounds want to settle here, to enjoy outstanding schools, beautiful green spaces, excellent infrastructure and a low crime rate.

By the end of the year, we will have 393,000 people in our borough. That’s a milestone we should celebrate. It’s a shame your article focused instead on one pressure group’s claim that we are “heading towards a housing crisis”. What nonsense. Barnet Borough Council is going to build 20,000 new homes over the next two decades. We’re ready for the challenge.

Some loudmouths only want to do Barnet down. The thousands of people moving to Barnet, year after year, prove just how wrong they are.
