Edgar Davids has confirmed he will wear the number one shirt for Barnet this season.
The Dutchman has worn the number, traditionally used by goalkeepers, in the Bees’ last two pre-season friendlies.
After he played 88 minutes in his side’s 4-1 defeat against MK Dons, Davids was asked if he will continue to wear the shirt once the Conference Premier campaign gets underway.
He replied: “Yes, that is my number for the season. I am going to start this trend.”
Bees goalkeeper Graham Stack will continue to wear the number 29 on his shirt and said he didn’t think it matters what number a player wears.
“We have decided the squad numbers and I am keeping the same as last season; so I’ll be 29.
“Squad numbers mean nothing to me and I’ve had a few over the years. So it is not an issue for me.
“Edgar Davids has asked to wear number one, he asked me what number I want and I said I didn’t mind.
“I spoke to Mick McCarthy last weekend and he said that he’s had many number ones or nines on the bench.
“So I don’t think what matters you wear. All that matters is that you are in the team and playing.”
Davids also insists his players refer to him as 'Mr Davids' even when playing on the pitch.
