For the fifth successive match Barnet head coach Edgar Davids did not speak to the media but his assistant coach Ulrich Landvreugd admitted he was very disappointed after the Bees’ 2-1 FA Trophy defeat against Grimsby Town.

Andy Cook put the Mariners ahead after six minutes but Barnet drew level in the second period when Keanu Marsh-Brown slotted past James McKeown.

The Bees looked the more likely side to claim victory but, with five minutes remaining, Dayle Southwell was put through on goal and he slammed home the winner.

Speaking in the absence of Davids, Landvreugd said: “I am very disappointed. I was looking forward to us giving it a shot and trying to get to Wembley. So for me, personally, I am disappointed.”

He continued: “We started slowly in the first half, especially in the first 25 minutes. We have conceded a goal in that time as well.

“The last 20 minutes of the first half was better and we got a little bit more into the game and we had a few small chances.”

On the Bees’ second half display, Landvreugd added: “We created a lot of chances but you need to score those chances we had. Sometimes you can have opportunities but they were big chances and we needed to score a minimum of one of those.”

Barnet’s players were adamant Southwell’s winner was offside but Landvreugd admitted he had not had the chance to review the goal.

He said: “I’ve not seen it back but from what I heard it was offside. Maybe you could see it from the stand but I couldn’t see it from where we were.

“I had a feeling it was off but we will have to look at the clip.”

Bees striker Jake Hyde was brought on with 24 minutes remaining and struck the post in the dying moments.

It was Hyde’s first appearance for two months due to an ankle ligament injury and Landvreugd was pleased with his comeback.

He said: “We came in very well and had a big chance. He hit the inside of the post and normally that goes in but his shot has come out.

“He created two or three opportunities for himself and one big one, so that shows his quality.”
