Potters Bar teenager Lucas McNally has been chosen to compete with the Great Britain wakeboarding squad.
The 14-year-old, who attends Mount Grace School, took up wakeboarding at the age of nine and has gone from strength to strength.
McNally, who practices at Boughton Lodge Waterski Club and JBSki, is ranked fifth in the country for his age group and will taught to ride at an international level after being chosen for the GB squad.
McNally said: "I’m very pleased. The first couple of years I practiced were a little bit slow but I have picked up this year. I’ve learnt a lot more and improved.
"My mum has been very supportive to me over the years and I appreciate that. If we can get the money together to go, my next goal is to go to the European Championships in August."
Wakeboarding is a relatively new sport and McNally admits he will have to travel to America if he is to make a living from the sport.
He said: "I hope I can do it for the rest of my life and make it my job. That will mean going to the USA though because they have a lot more events.
"I want to start going out there when I am around 18/19 for around a month at a time. It won’t be easy but my mum is really pushing me to go out and do well."
