Martin Allen believes “special” Barnet can still secure a place in the Skrill Premier play-offs - especially if it comes down to the final day of the season.

A 1-1 draw with Cambridge United this afternoon leaves Allen’s men ninth in the table.

Barnet are two points off a place in top five and the Bees head coach believes the play-off positions will be decided on the last day of the campaign.

He said: “I haven’t had the chance to look at the table after this game but four points from the last two matches is a good tally.

“To beat Hereford and to then come here and draw is good. Our performance (against Cambridge) sets us up and we will continue this way of playing and continue the tempo.

“We look forward to next week and I think it will go to the last day. We will have to be there on the last day and we all know that on the last day we are special.

“We’ve been there so many times before and these players can do it on the last day, there is no doubt.”

The draw at Cambridge saw Barnet collect their first point away from home in over a month.

Josh Gillies' first-half penalty had put the U’s ahead but a stunning strike from Connor Dymond in the 70th minute earned Barnet a point.

Allen said: “I was very pleased with the performance, I thought it was superb. We kept the ball well, moved it around the pitch but perhaps lacked that little cutting edge in the final third.

“But other than that we were superb and the minimum we deserved was a draw.”

When asked if he had any complaints over Cambridge’s penalty, Allen replied: “It’s not worth complaining about any decisions. I thought the ref did a good job today. It’s a difficult place to come and play and they’ve been top for a large part of the season.

“So I have no complaints with the referee or the penalty decision.”
