Wingate and Finchley suffered their second consecutive home pre-season defeat after going down 2-1 to Redbridge on Tuesday.

The hosts were made to pay for their failure to convert from a string of early corners when Lee Newton put the Motormen ahead. Caught out by a high line, Wingate found themselves behind when Newton stole through to chip over Cain Davies after just seven minutes.

Debutant Lee Brennan tested Redbridge goalkeeper Mark Parker soon after but the visitors' number one was able to keep out Brennan's 25-yard effort.

The Ryman Premier League side equalised when Rob Laney headed home from Marc Weatherstone's overhead cross. Laney could have had a second soon after but dragged his shot wide.

A number of personnel changes and a change of strip at the break did not aid Danny Nielsen's side, and with five minutes left on the club, the Ryman Division One North side grabbed the win From a free-kick in a dangerous area, Leon Smith was left unmarked and allowed to nod home the winner for the Essex outfit.

From there, though, the visitors took charge, with Steve Wales (2), John Frendo, Lee Clarke and James Comley all netting. Nico Muir notched in the 90th minute but it was nothing more than a consolation.
