Hendon boss Gary McCann was at a loss to explain his side’s “freaky” record of six defeats from six games against Enfield Town, following Saturday’s 1-0 loss.

The Greens have never beaten the Towners in the Isthmian Premier Division but bizarrely, have always beaten their Middlesex rivals in cup competition.

Reflecting on Saturday’s defeat, McCann told the club’s website: “Six defeats out of six is extraordinary. It is freaky that we have lost six times to Enfield Town in the league. I thought we had turned the corner when we won here last month.

“Today, however, we never got going. I must admit I thought that we might take a while to get into the game after nine days without a match. We did train twice last week, but it is not the same as playing.

“We were lacking everywhere today, and there were only a couple of players who came out of the game with any credit.

“The way we played meant there was always going to be disappointment on our part, and I told the players this after the game. I was quite calm with them in the dressing room, and there was no shouting.”

Liam Hope got the game’s only goal with ten minutes remaining, condemning Hendon to a defeat which leaves them fourth with a four-point buffer on the sides outside the play-off places.

The Greens host Canvey Island on Saturday before travelling to Witham Town on Tuesday.
