Wingate & Finchley maintained their unbeaten start to 2015 by beating Witham Town 3-2 in the Isthmian Premier Division on Saturday.

Scott Shulton fired home for Wingate after David Knight’s free kick was blocked by the Witham wall after seven minutes.

Thirteen minutes later the lead was doubled; Mark Goodman’s cross bouncing in off the far post.

And on the stroke of half time, Rob Laney toe-poked home to give the Blues a 3-0 lead at the break.

Witham fought back with an own goal from Wingate goalkeeper Bobby Smith and a Lewis Gobold effort but Wingate held firm.

Next up for the Blues is a visit from Lewes on Saturday.

Hendon beat Edgware Town 8-1 in a friendly at Silver Jubilee Park after both sides saw their league fixtures postponed.

The Greens had been set to host Canvey Island, whilst the Wares were scheduled to face Amersham Town away.

Speaking afterwards, Hendon boss Gary McCann said: “I enjoyed the surface – I think it is better than Maidstone’s – and the boys are loving it too. All in all, it was a good exercise for us.

“The final score was a true reflection of the game. We could probably have added to our total, but I was pleased with what we did.”

Aaron Morgan (2), Chris Seeby, Tony Taggart, Kezie Ibe, Leon Smith, Roman Michael-Percil and Andre da Costa all netted.

Hendon host Kingstonian on Saturday, with Hampton & Richmond Borough visiting Earlsmead in the Isthmian League Cup on Monday.

Edgware are at home to Broxbourne Borough on Saturday.
