Martin Allen has revealed he would like to sign another player on loan to bolster his ailing side, whilst also extending Conor Clifford's loan deal from Southend United.

Speaking after Barnet's 3-1 home defeat by Forest Green Rovers, the Bees head coach admitted he would need to change something in order to help his side across the line.

He explained: "Yes, I will have to [sign someone else on loan]. I will have to talk to the chairman but yes, I have got to now look to try and improve the team because it is not right."

Asked to divulge the position he was looking to strengthen, Allen refused to be drawn.

He has also stated his intention to extend the loan deal of Clifford, currently on loan from Southend United. The midfielder's loan deal expires this evening.

On Tuesday Allen kept his cards close to his chest when asked about Clifford's Barnet future but has since admitted he would like to retain the Dubliner.

Allen said: "We are trying to get the loan extended next week."

Southend United boss Phil Brown told the Southend Echo on Friday: "I was expecting a call from Martin Allen but he hasn't phoned yet. If I don't get a call then Conor will be coming back after Saturday."

Former Chelsea youngster Clifford has scored once in five appearances - three of which have been starts.

The emergency loan window shuts on Thursday, March 26, meaning any deal must be completed by then. Players can spend a maximum of 93 days on an emergency loan deal and Clifford has used 33.

The Conference play-off final is scheduled for Sunday, May 17, which is 71 days from now. If the Bees were to require the former Ireland youth cap for the play-off final, his loan would need to be extended on March 18 at the earliest.
