Hendon missed out on promotion from the Hertfordshire/Middlesex League 2, despite beating Watford 47-18 in their best display of the season.

Going into the game Hendon were level on points with league-leaders London French but adrift on match points, meaning they had to win and almost certainly pick up a bonus point to overhaul a French side who were at Hillingdon - themselves unbeaten at home.

However, French pulled off an unlikely 35-13 win to deny Hendon promotion.

Tries from Arwel Roberts (2), Adam Johnson (2), Cian Hynes (2) and Mike Evans-Jones, plus 12 points from the boot of Hines, were not enough for Hendon to overhaul London French.

Barnet Elizabethans suffered a disappointing end to their Hertfordshire/Middlesex League 1 season by losing 21-10 to Royston at Byng Road on Saturday.

Royston did have the wind and slope advantage in the first half and their pack controlled the game, scoring three converted tries in the first half, whereas BE laboured to score two tries through Glyn Bayley and Luke Williams.

The Elizabethans' third consecutive loss means BE finish the season in seventh place.
