London Broncos’ play-off hopes all but ended with a 24-12 defeat to the Dewsbury Rams on Sunday – a performance head coach Andrew Henderson labelled as embarrassing.

The Rams had Ryan Fieldhouse sent off for a high shot on Frenchman William Barthau but the Broncos still suffered defeat against the Yorkshire outfit despite their numerical advantage.

London won their last Championship fixture against Whitehaven and went into Sunday’s clash knowing a win would keep their slim play-off hopes alive.

Head coach Andrew Henderson was left frustrated by the defeat and told the club website: "Yesterday’s game was embarrassing and I can only apologise to those fans that travelled to support the team and had to endure that torturous display."

The Broncos started poorly, giving away two tries to Karl Pryce in the opening 15 minutes. Coach Henderson added: “We certainly were not working together and supporting each other out there on that field.

“Too many players made poor decisions and failed to execute what was needed and what was best for the team.”

Despite conceding early the Broncos scored through Wes Naiqama before the Rams saw red. Henderson continued: “We didn’t get off to a good start and when they went down to 12 men you felt we would naturally grind them down.

“But it was the total opposite, we hit the self-destruct button. We got rattled and bullied out of the game, losing our composure and playing into the hands of the opposition.”

The Broncos face a trip to Workington Town on Sunday and Henderson is looking for an improvement ahead of their penultimate Championship fixture.

“I have asked the players to have a good look at themselves this week and be honest,” he stated. “I still have faith and belief in my players that we can finish this season strong and get something out of it.

“There is an opportunity to win some silverware and we are more than capable of getting it if we work harder, we want it, and we execute better on the field.”
