Martin Allen has confirmed Barnet are in talks to extend striker Aaron McLean’s deal at The Hive.

As things stand the 32-year-old forward will be out of contract later this month.

The former Peterborough United and Hull City forward joined the Bees on August 19 on a ‘short-term’ deal, the length of which was never disclosed.

However, he is out of contract this month and will be free to leave the club if a new agreement cannot be reached.

Asked if he would like to keep the former England ‘C’ international at The Hive, Allen told the Times Series: “His contract is up in mid-January and the chairman is negotiating with his agent and we’re hoping to extend that.”

McLean has scored five times in 12 starts in League Two for Barnet, starting Barnet’s last six League Two fixtures and forging a good partnership with John Akinde.
