Hendon overcame higher-league opposition to win the Silver Jubilee Cup on home soil on Sunday, beating Hemel Hempstead and Hitchin Town on their way to the trophy.

The Ryman Premier League side were 3-1 winners in the semi-final over their National League South visitors Hemel Hempstead, before dispatching Southern League Premier side Hitchin Town 4-1 to lift the cup.

Hemel brought a squad containing a healthy number of first-team players to north London, but Hendon were undaunted and took a 2-0 lead into the dressing room at half-time when Niko Muir struck twice in two minutes through a penalty and a one-on-one.

After the break, Hemel pulled the scores back to 2-1 through a trialist, but Taron Dawkins' strike with 12 minutes to go restored the Greens' two-goal advantage, which they would hold on to this time.

On Sunday, they returned to fight for the trophy itself, against a Hitchin outfit that had finished fourth in the Southern Premier last season.

Trialist defender Andrew Iwediuno showed his quality at the other end with the opening goal 15 minutes in for Hendon, but the lead lasted only a minute as a defensive slip allowed the visitors an equaliser.

But a fine flowing move was finished off by Josh Walker, looking to catch the eye and force his way into the Greens' line-up next season, before half-time, to put them back in front.

As normal in pre-season, a multitude of changes after the break disrupted proceedings, but trialist striker Daniel Uchechi, formerly a Nigerian Under-23 international, lit up the game with a fine free-kick to add Hendon's third.

Uchechi completed a late brace to put the cherry on a pleasing cake for the hosts, as they ran out comfortable winners - and went on to lift the cup.
