Barnet were unable to finish their season on a high at Milmoor this afternoon.

The Bees fell to an early goal and, though dominating most of the second half, never really looked like scoring.

The three points for Rotherham ensured that they finished above the Bees in the table.

However, there was little else at stake and this was a typical end-of-season encounter, played in a good spirit.

Injury-hit Barnet were again forced to start the game with midfielder Michael Leary and left-back Kenny Gillet in the centre of defence.

There was once more a place on the bench for youngsters Danny Hart and Joe Tabiri.

Rotherham took just eight minutes to break the deadlock. The ball broke kindly for Jamie Green on the edge of the box and he drilled low into the far corner.

It was a lovely strike and there was little keeper Lee Harrison could do to keep it out.

The Millers almost made it two on 14 minutes, Ryan Taylor bursting towards goal, before firing over Harrison's bar from 20 yards.

Mark Hudson should have done better from a clever Taylor knock-down, but his shot from the edge of the area was well off target.

The Bees were struggling to make an impact, their first real effort not coming until midway through the half, and then keeper Andy Warrington had little trouble holding a Josh Wright shot that had been flicked on by Cliff Akurang.

At the other end, Hudson was again set up on the edge of the box, but this time sliced his effort horribly wide.

Taylor was next to try his luck, his shot bouncing awkwardly in front of the diving Harrison, but finishing just past the post.

With ten minutes of the half to go, Barnet full-back Jordan Parkes let fly, his dipping effort clearing the bar by about a foot.

Predictably, the Bees' best effort of the first half came from Jason Puncheon just before the interval. Warrington could only push his long-range drive out to Albert Adomah, but the keeper recovered to save the winger's first-time shot.

The second half started slowly and the first chance did not come until the 55th minute. A Wright corner was only cleared as far as Puncheon, but the winger never got over the ball and his shot finished high and wide.

Within a minute, Adomah, in a flash, beat Waddington to a ball into the box. The Barnet player clipped the ball over the shotstopper, but a defender was on the line to clear.

The Millers had lost their way, the Bees at last starting to look a threat.

Leary was allowed to run at goal from just inside his own half, but he screwed his speculative shot wide.

On 65 minutes, Akurang just failed to get on the end of an inviting Nicky Nicolau cross, as Barnet continued to press for an equaliser.

Rotherham had to wait until 20 minutes from time for their first chance of the second half, sub Jamie Yates striking the post from eight yards with his first touch after the ball had been laid into his path. He perhaps should have buried it.

At the other end, Puncheon was a few inches wide with a low shot that had Warrington beaten.

With ten minutes to go, manager Paul Fairclough made a triple substitution in a bid to salvage a point.

One of the subs, Kieron St Aimie, made room for himself on the edge of the area, but failed to keep his shot down.

The same player then made a mess of a lovely Puncheon ball that picked him out down the left, the teenager slipping as he took aim.

Sub Anthony Thomas then burst into the box, beating several players with his pace and trickery, but failed to test Warrington.

Keeper Harrison pushed up front in the final stages, but Barnet could not force an equaliser.
