Barnet head coach Dean Brennan was blown away by his side’s performance during the 3-2 win over Ebbsfleet United at The Hive on Bank Holiday Monday, writes Tom Norton.

Nicke Kabamba's hat-trick saw the Bees to the points, two days after a 1-0 defeat at bottom club Dagenham & Redbridge had ended their unbeaten start to the National League season.

When asked what he thought of the show his team put on, he was full of praise.

“I thought we were sensational," Brennan told the club website.

“I think they’ve had two shots. We created enough to win every game this season and played some brilliant football and pressed the ball really well.

"We made a team who play out from the back go long every time. I thought we were just sensational."

The Bees boss went on to praise the consistency of his side’s performances throughout the season and spoke of his determination to see out games more effectively.

“Realistically, our goalie’s had two saves to make, and he hasn’t made them," added Brennan bullishly.

“I can say that about all the games this season. The expectation’s higher at our football club now. It’s on me – everyone can see we’re trying to do something special here and some of the players have to come with us.

"We can’t have what we just had today. We should realistically win that game easily.”

Brennan also spoke about the sloppiness exhibited in recent weeks after the disappointing 3-3 draw at Eastleigh and loss at Dagenham & Redbridge.

“It’s just individual players,” said Brennan.

“Sloppy away again at Eastleigh – they had four shots on our goal and they scored three goals. Today they’ve had two shots on our goal that he [Laurie Walker] saw and we did well enough in the end.

"So realistically, two and a half shots on our goal. The main man scored two goals, we spoke about him all day. Both goals have gone down the middle of the goal.”

A frustrated Brennan certainly felt his keeper should have done better with both Ebbsfleet goals, adding: “Our goalie’s got to do better. I’m not going to call him out, he’s a good goalkeeper Laurie. He’s got big enough shoulders to handle it and I have no doubt he’ll come through this period that he’s going through.”

Asked about Kabamba’s treble on the day, Brennan gave a cogent response about what he expects from his striker.

“I think he can do better,” he said, commandingly.

“I’ve got to be honest and say he should have had six goals, not three. If we’re going to do something special, he needs to get six goals.

"We created some sensational opportunities for him, we looked at their goalie so many times. It’s always good to get a hat-trick, but if we’re going to do the thing that [Wrexham's] Paul Mullin and people like [Macaulay] Langstaff [at Notts County] were doing last season, Nicke’s got to look to them."

Brennan’s side make the short trip to Boreham Wood on Saturday for a derby against a side who have won just one of their opening six fixtures in the National League.
