Fans of Hendon FC are on the verge of taking over the club.

Hendon Football Club Supporters Trust members have voted to approve a proposal to take over ownership from the Arbiter Group, the club’s current owners, by the end of October.

And it will mean the club moving out of Claremont Road and sharing Wembley FC's Vale Farm.

Simon Lawrence, chairman of the Trust, speaking after a special general meeting at Claremont Road last week, said: “All Trust members in attendance voted to approve the proposal, and a letter setting out the agreement in principle has now been signed by both parties.

“There are many details to be agreed but the two parties will now work together to execute a formal agreement and to obtain the approval of the relevant authorities. In the meantime, the two parties will work together to ensure stability in the run-up to the coming season.”

It would mean Hendon leaving Claremont Road, with the Greens making their home at Wembley FC.

Mr Lawrence continued: “Members were advised that steps have now been taken to secure the permission of the relevant football authorities for the club to enter into a groundsharing agreement with Wembley Football Club. All parties are working towards securing agreement for the club to play its home games at Wembley’s Vale Farm ground. This agreement will be effected as soon as possible.”

The move will not come as a shock, as the future of Claremont Road has been uncertain for a number of years. Fans knew the club was on borrowed time, as far as the ground was concerned.

Mr Lawrence added: “The first key step towards Trust ownership was taken back in March 2006 when the Trust was formed. The agreement in principle to take ownership of the club represents the second key step in the process and moves us closer to our goal of ensuring the long-term survival of the club.”

Meanwhile, Hendon begin their Ryman League Premier Division campaign with a home game against newcomers Dartford this Saturday. They then travel to Margate on Tuesday.

The Greens rounded off their pre-season campaign with a 4-2 win at Ware on Sunday.

Mark Kirby (2), Charlie Mapes and Brian Haule were all on target.
