FC Halifax Town travel to The Hive on Saturday knowing it is make-or-break time for their Conference play-off hopes.

The Shaymen sit in eighth place, six points outside of the top five but with the benefit of a game in hand on those sides currently occupying the places immediately above them.

Barnet only faced Neil Aspin’s side little under a month ago, coming away from The Shay with a 1-1 draw after the hosts grabbed an injury-time equaliser to deny Martin Allen’s men a priceless three points.

It will be almost exactly one year ago Halifax came to The Hive and taught Barnet a lesson, coming away with a 4-0 win which effectively ended the Bees’ own play-off aspirations.

Speaking after a 1-1 draw at Lincoln City on Monday night, Aspin refused to rule out reaching the play-offs.

He told the Halifax Courier: “Again it’s a drawn game but to play 42 games at this level and only have lost ten is a great record but we know we’ve drawn too many games.

“Obviously one point doesn’t move you forward but in terms of how you’re feeling and how the supporters feel there’s a difference travelling back with a draw rather than a defeat.

“The supporters who’ve come to the away games have done us proud and I’ll make sure the players keep fighting until the last game.

“We had enough chances to win the game but we’ve got to push on and try to win at Barnet,” he added.

It took a Lois Maynard strike at the death to earn a point for the visitors and it was the versatile former Winsford United player who got the equaliser against the Bees a month earlier.

However, the Yorkshire outfit have won just once since sneaking a late point against Barnet and have, incredibly, drawn nine of their last 11 games.

That run has seen Halifax’s play-off hopes dwindle, though it is worth noting they have only slipped one place, from seventh to eighth, in that period.

Jack Muldoon joined the Shaymen on loan in mid-February in a bid to help fire the part-timers into the play-offs but the Rochdale forward only got off the mark at the seventh attempt, notching twice in a 2-1 win at Nuneaton Town.

There is no lack of firepower at The Shay, with Scott Boden on ten goals and defender-cum-midfield Maynard leading the way on 11.

Former Tamworth and Fulham striker Richard Peniket has seen his season cut short by injury but had struck six times in 24 outings prior to injury. Danny Hattersley has also chipped in after joining – initially on loan – from Conference rivals Southport.

Halifax boast the 10th-best attack in the division but on the road that figure drops to 20th – an undoubted cause for concern for Aspin.

At home they are a force to be reckoned, losing just three times all season, yet on the road they have lost just once in 2015 also – an improvement on the first half of the season when they triumphed in just three away fixtures.

Barnet have not beaten Halifax in three Conference meetings. March’s draw was the first time the Bees have taken anything away from a game against the Shaymen, with both of last season’s clashes ending in defeat.

FC Halifax Town XI v Lincoln City (6.4.2015): Glennon; Bolton, M. Roberts, Hutchison, Williams, McManus; Maynard, Pearson, Hatfield; Muldoon, Boden.
