Martin Allen has confirmed Barnet have received an offer for Andy Yiadom in the last week, thought to be from Barnsley, but says the Bees are not a “car-boot sale club” and labelled the bid derisory and derogatory.

The right-sider was subject of two bids from the League One Tykes earlier this summer, both of which were turned down by Barnet.

However, Lee Johnson’s side have just received £1 million for defender Mason Holgate and could still come into further money if former Tyke John Stones leaves Everton this summer.

Asked if there had been any offers for the 23-year-old, Allen replied: “Yes, there has been interest from several clubs in him and we have had one offer from a League One club.

“The offer we have had, in my opinion, was derisory and what I would class and call derogatory,” added Allen.

Yiadom has been made vice-captain at The Hive this summer after scoring three goals in 42 appearances for the Bees last season on the way to the Conference title.

Asked if he expected Yiadom to remain with Barnet, Allen said: “It depends how much clubs offer. I think gone are the days where you can just come to Barnet and pick players up for crap money.

“This is not a car-boot sale club, we have got good players here and if you want to come and buy them you have got to bid proper money. Why should we let our players go for [a fee] which is not anywhere near justified?

“He was Player of the Year for England C last season; the best player in the Conference by a country mile and he is a top-quality player.”

Allen has no doubts the former Watford, Hayes & Yeading and Braintree Town player can thrive higher up the football pyramid but is adamant Yiadom will only be allowed to leave Barnet if the bidding club meet the Bees’ valuation of him.

He said: “There is no doubt he will go and play much higher than where we are but there is no doubt all of us at Barnet can accept that. What I can’t accept is people from higher divisions making derisory and derogatory offers to try and nick people out of a car-boot sale. It’s ridiculous.

“I will be the first to drive him there but he has got to go somewhere where he can realise his quality. He is a fantastic player and only time will tell.”

But if Yiadom does leave he will do so with the blessings of Allen, who insists he will find a replacement for the full-back-cum-winger.

“We will find someone else,” confirmed Allen. “It is my job and that is what we do. When I came here we only had about eight players and some of them have gone.

“You just have to keep replacing and if I lose him to a much higher club and earns bundles of dough and has a great career I would be a very proud person. It could not happen to a nicer fella to be honest.

“He deserves every bit of success he has in the future but it has got to be right for us and for the chairman."
