Barnet skipper Andy Yiadom insists it doesn’t matter who has the armband because there are so many leaders in the team.

The former Watford Academy scholar succeeded Curtis Weston earlier this season, a matter of months after the midfielder had been appointed as Charlie MacDonald’s replacement.

Head coach Martin Allen has always made a point of having as many leaders in the side as possible and whilst only one man can wear the armband, Yiadom says the characters in the Bees’ dressing room make his life easy.

Speaking after Saturday’s 2-0 victory over League One side Blackpool in the FA Cup, the 23-year-old said: “Curtis is doing extremely well even if I’m captain.

“I don’t think it makes a massive difference who is captain because, at the end of the day, the 11 put on the pitch are all leaders. We all help each other out.

“Michael Nelson gives me earache [with his constant shouting]. Everyone puts their two pence in and helps the team so we’re all leaders at the end of the day.

“Everyone is good so we all manage each other.”

The attention has been on the former England C international since the beginning of the season and high-profile interest from League One strugglers Barnsley.

The Tykes made two offers for Yiadom, labelled as derogatory and derisory by Allen, but the versatile right-sider says he has been unaffected by speculation linking him with the Yorkshire outfit.

“Something happened, something happened,” he sighed. “At the end of the day I am at Barnet and I want to do the best for the team.”

Yiadom has undoubtedly done exactly that; playing at right-back, right midfield, central midfield and left midfield already this term with Allen labelling him Barnet’s best player.

Not that the Holloway-born defender is bothered where he plays.

“It doesn’t really make much difference,” he explained. “Whatever position I’m put I just want to do a good job for the team, put a good performance in and help the team get three points.”

Looking ahead to Saturday's trip to Luton Town, Yiadom hopes to keep Barnet's run going.

He said: "It’s good for the team morale to keep winning. We’re all excited but we’ve got to not get too excited because we’ve got another game on Saturday.

"We want to keep this little run going and go to Luton to try to put a good performance in and get a win."
