Barnet head coach Martin Allen said he is looking to "drive the club as far as it can go" after signing a new deal at The Hive this week.

Now entering his third full season in what is his fourth spell in north London, the Bees boss has now put pen to paper and replaced his rolling one-year contract, although the exact length has not been confirmed.

His re-signing was confirmed days after top scorer John Akinde agreed terms over an extended stay the club this summer, something the 50-year-old cited as one of the reasons he had been inspired to commit his future.

He said: "I've enjoyed my two years at Barnet working with the chairman, staff and players. We've improved the squad a lot in that time.

"I'm looking forward to doing well and making us improve even more. We have to keep looking forward to drive ourselves as high as we can go.

"It's all part of the long-term progression and progress of the club. There's the size of the new stand as well as John Akinde signing a new deal.

"You look at that from a few years ago, with the next group of young players coming through too, and all in all we're in a good place."

Ryan Watson, Alex Nicholls and new goalkeeper Josh Vickers have been the extent of Barnet's minor, but careful, business this summer, with the trio - and the possibilty of trialist Jean Louis Akpa-Akpro to follow - already impressing Allen.

He said: "The players we've brought in are very good and it's been a better summer of recruitment than last year. It's an exciting time to be a Barnet fan.

"After winning two titles, once you've got that feeling it's the most magical thing for a manager. I want to do it again.

"I've got a really great group of players here, I'm really proud of them and I can look each one of them in the eye and see they will give everything for this club."
