Barnet boss Martin Allen admitted his side weren’t anywhere near their best during the 3-0 win against Dover Athletic but described the Bees as disciplined and professional.

A Luisma Villa header and a brace from Luke Gambin secured a comfortable victory for Barnet against the Whites.

The win moved the Bees back to the top of the early Conference table. Allen’s side have won seven of their opening eight league matches and are yet to concede away from home.

“I don’t think we were anywhere near our best, that’s for sure,” Allen told BT Sport after the game.

“We played well though and it was a disciplined, professional performance away from home.

“I thought they had a couple of chances in the first half which I wasn’t entirely happy with but we have a good bunch of players and are ticking along nicely.”

He continued: “I want the lads to do well and we’ve got a lot of young boys playing. We took off John Akinde so a lot of the young lads were playing.

“That is a nice luxury to have as we don’t have a big squad. I do coach them, train them and work them hard so when they go into the team they have to play how the team play.

“God bless these young boys, they are fitting in very, very well.”

Gambin started the game on the bench and was only introduced after Bees captain Charlie McDonald was brought off in the 40th minute after colliding with Dover goalkeeper Mitchell Walker.

When asked about McDonald’s injury, Allen said: “It looks like he has twisted his knee. We won’t know how he is until tomorrow and probably the next day until it settles down.

“So he is doubtful for the weekend. I don’t like writing people off long term, we’ll see how it is over the next 48 hours and go from there.”
