The Dallas Cowboys completed their third and final practice at Allianz Park this morning ahead of their NFL clash with the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium.

The Cowboys have been based at the stadium, the home of Saracens Rugby Club, in Greenlands Lane, Hendon, ahead of Sunday’s match.

Tonight, they will visit the Tower of London and have a team meal before visiting Wembley for the first time tomorrow.

“The first time we’ll go out on the (Wembley) field is tomorrow. People have told us it’s a great field, a great stadium,” head coach Jason Garrett told reporters at a press conference this morning before the players began their practice drills.

Speaking about travelling to London for the game, the third NFL fixture to be played at Wembley this season, Garrett said the trip had been “fine”. The Cowboys will be the “away” team on Sunday, with Jacksonville the designated home team.

“A lot of it has to do with your attitude,” said Garrett, the first former Dallas Cowboys player to become its head coach. “We try to make it as normal as we can with our schedule and how we function leading up to the ball game. Our players have responded well to it.

“The biggest thing for us was getting the sleeping patterns right but that doesn’t seem to have been a big issue and we’ve had two good practices.”

While the team prepares for the game, all eyes have been on quarterback Tony Romo’s recovery from a back injury that saw him sit out last Sunday’s 28-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

But after missing practice on Wednesday, Romo was back on the field yesterday and today, building confidence that he will start against the Jaguars.

Garrett said: “He looked pretty comfortable to me. Slowly he’s coming back off of this thing and once we get the blood flowing back through his body and get his movement back, both in the pocket and also throwing the football, I feel like he had a pretty good day yesterday.

“We’ll take today and see how he feels. Hopefully he can practice the way we need him to practice today and just take it right up until game time.”

The head coach also praised the team’s defence, which has helped the side to a 6-3 winning record so far this season, including a 30-23 victory at Superbowl champions the Seattle Seahawks.

“We’ve done some good things on defence,” Garrett said. “Guys understand what our scheme is and are playing the scheme better, which I think is important. We’ve had some guys step up, some guys who are no longer with us, some guys get injured, and players in our programme or players from the outside have come in and done a nice job for us in the linebacker position, on the defensive line and the back end.

“I feel good about how they’ve played, there’s certainly a lot of room for improvement. We’ve done some good things throughout the year but we certainly need to get a lot better. I like the spirit with which our defence plays with, they play with a relentless spirit, they’re a physical group, they love to play and you have to do that every week.”
