Hendon were knocked out of the Middlesex Senior Cup after suffering a 5-2 defeat against Staines Town.

The Greens went into the contest unbeaten in six games but fell behind in the 18th minute when Elliott Buchanan scored.

Hendon, who are managed by Gary McCann quickly reacted and they equalised through a Dave Diedhiou header, but Staines went into the half-time interval ahead thanks to a strike from Romone Rose.

Both teams continued to play attacking football in the second period and Hendon levelled for the second time when Peter Dean struck.

However, the hosts then took control and goals from Chris M’Boungou, Danny Bassett and Luke Neville ensured their passage into the quarter finals of the competition.

Whilst there was cup disappointment, the Greens continue to impress in the Ryman Premier.

McCann’s men are third in the division and recorded a 3-2 win over Grays Athletic on Saturday, although the margin of victory should have been greater.

Hendon went in front in the fifth minute when Sam Murphy dispatched a penalty.

Their advantage was then doubled by Kezie Ibe shortly before the interval.

The Greens were in control in the second period and seemed to have wrapped up the game with eight minutes remaining when Kevin McLaren struck.

However, Grays continued to battle and two Freddie Lapado goals in stoppage time rattled Hendon nerves. But the Greens saw out the game to complete victory.

There is no league action for Hendon this Saturday as they take on Worthing in the FA Trophy.
