Hendon boss Gary McCann hopes to catch Isthmian Premier Division leaders Maidstone United but accepts the Stones will have to have to slip up to do so.

The Greens are just nine points behind the leaders with a game in hand after picking up three wins in five days.

Hendon completed their treble on Wednesday by beating Canvey Island 1-0, Kevin Mclaren getting the only goal.

That followed a 2-1 win over Metropolitan Police on Monday.

And Hendon are 14 points better off than Enfield Town on the cusp of the play-off places.

Goals from Andre da Costa and Casey Maclaren sealed the Met win and speaking to the club website, McCann said: “We are still entertaining hopes of catching Maidstone, but we need them to have a dip in form.”

Reflecting on victory over the Met, he added: “It was a defensive display of the highest order. They came at us with great energy in the first 20 minutes of the second half, but we were really solid and there were very few clear openings.

“In fact, I think we created better and more clear-cut chances despite all their possession.”

Saturday saw Hendon extend their unbeaten run to nine league and cup games by beating Tonbridge Angels 1-0.

Kezie Ibe got the game’s only goal and his 20th of a fruitful season in the 55th minute.

McCann’s side visit Billericay Town on Saturday.
