Three Friern Barnet attacks in Friary Park and Colney Hatch Lane put victims in hospital

Three people were taken to hospital after being attacked in separate incidents around Friern Barnet.

A man was struck on the head while jogging in Friary Park around 7.30pm, then someone else was attacked in the park in a similar way around 8pm.

The third attack happened to a man around 10pm in Colney Hatch Lane where police and ambulance came to the scene.

All three victims were taken to hospital following their attacks and none were seriously injured.

Hertfordshire's Suzie Ryan left 'humiliated' when Chipping Barnet petrol station refuses her use of the toilet

A woman with a serious bowel disease was humiliated when petrol station staff refused to let her use their toilet in a desperate moment.

Suzie Ryan, who lives in Hertfordshire, was driving home from work on Monday (December 12) when she realised she needed the toilet and quickly pulled into the nearest petrol stations – a Londis in Wood Street, High Barnet.

At the station, Mrs Ryan, 31, explained she has inflammatory bowel disease which can make it difficult or even impossible to hold in a bowel movement.

The person behind the station till refused her request to use the toilet, saying it was for staff use only.

As Mrs Ryan, a relationship manager for a bank, made her way back to the car her bodily urges became too much.

MPs Matthew Offord and Oliver Dowden set for cap-busting pay rises

MPs, including Hendon's Matthew Offord and Hertsmere's Oliver Dowden, are set for a 1.4 per cent pay rise - well above the 1 per cent cap imposed on public sector workers.

The rise from £74,962 to £76,011, due to take effect in April 2017, follows another cap-busting increase of 1.3 per cent earlier this year.

And it comes two years after a massive 10 per cent hike from £67,000 to £74,000 in 2015, recommended by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa).

Restaurants, bars and schools going years without hygiene inspections due to cuts

Hundreds of restaurants, bars, schools and canteens in Barnet have gone years without formal hygiene checks as cuts leave bosses with reduced resources.

National guidance says inspections should be carried out between every six months and every three years according to a venue’s risk level, but thirteen premises in our area have not been visited in over ten years.

Barnet Council votes against Save Barnet Diving at Hendon Town Hall meeting

Children were left “crying and devastated” after a campaign to save their diving centre saw a partial defeat as Barnet Council voted to push its plan ahead with only minor amendments.

The council is spending £35 million to shut down and replace Copthall leisure centre in Mill Hill with two new and improved centres, though initial plans for neither centre include diving facilities.

A petition from the Save Barnet Diving campaign group persuaded the council to put the decision to a full vote.

Met police to investigate over 30 London football teams for sexual abuse allegations

More than 30 football clubs in London have been linked to 106 separate allegations of sex abuse, Scotland Yard has said.

A specialised investigation team, with officers from the sexual offences, exploitation and child abuse command, was announced last Thursday (December 8).

The investigative team has received 106 separate allegations to date, connected to individuals at 32 named football clubs or teams in London.

Criminal on the loose in Barnet

A criminal wanted for three offences is on the loose in Barnet.

Gabriel Scarlet, who is known to have links to Golders Green, is wanted for recall to prison, burglary and failing to appear at court.

Woman found in critical condition in Finchley

A woman was taken to hospital in a critical condition after being found by a passer-by.

Police were called to Kinloss Court, Finchley, at around 6.15pm on Sunday (December 11) to reports of an injured woman.  

It is believed that the 26-year-old was hurt at some point between 4pm and the time she was found by a member of the public.
