Boreham Wood manager Steve Cook hopes his side's run of three consecutive defeats will come to an end tomorrow when Wood host Folkestone Invicta.

The three losses - all this month and all by a single goal - means Cook is enduring his longest losing run as Wood manager since being installed at Meadow Park in May 2005.

But the 36-year-old is keeping positive. Cayman Islands international striker Dwayne Plummer was impressive on his debut last Saturday at Staines Town, and Cook has also added attacking midfielder Rodney Hicks to his squad.

Hicks, 20, was substituted after 69 minutes at Staines, but Cook believes the best is yet to come from the former Peterborough United player.

Cook said: "He played a lot of reserve-team football at Peterborough and it's going to take some time for him to adjust to this level of football.

"The game is a bit more cut and thrust but he's got good ability and the potential to be a very good player. Hopefully he'll do well enough for us to realise his dream of getting back into league football."

Although Wood and Invicta are 12 points apart, there is only three places between them and they are teams heading in opposite directions - the Kent side are unbeaten in the last three games, winning two of them.

"It should be a good game of football and they've got a lot to play for," said Cook.

"We are looking to bounce back. It will be a tough one but we remain confident in what we are doing. They are pretty much clear of the relegation zone but this game's a chance for them to stay clear."

Cook believes Plummer, 28, who has Football League experience with Bristol Rovers, will be a big player for Wood. "He's very talented and experienced," he said.

"He's got some great ability and brings some real quality to the squad."

A goal on his home debut is just what Cook needs right now.
