A charity in Borehamwood is asking for businesses to help with their storage and funding after large amounts of donations have been given.

Goods for Good is a charity set up by Rosalind Bluestone, the found and CEO, which helps send clothes to refugees overseas.

Currently the charity is based off Theobald Street, in Borehamwood, but it shares a storage unit with another charity.

Mrs Bluestone said: “We get a lot of donations from interfaith groups including the synagogue and mosque.

“We have regular volunteers who come in and help with the packing of the bags which then get taken to Luton to be transported over to where refugees need them.

“We have delivered 700 tonnes of high-quality UK overstock goods, with a value of £6,200,000, to 575,000 refugees in 12 countries around the world.”

The average cost of delivering is roughly around £5,000 per lorry and roughly around £5 to move one box/15 kilo bag of aid.

Donations are delivered to areas with high numbers of refugees including Syria, the Ukraine and the Philippines.

After 12 years at the helm of a leading UK charity’s Gifts-In-Kind programme, in 2014 Mrs Bluestone struck out on her own and founded Goods For Good.

Leveraging her extensive network, she has sourced more than £6m worth of goods in the UK alone and built a team of more than 110 volunteers.

Working closely with the Dutch-registered charity Humanitarian Resources International Foundation (HRIF), she has overseen the delivery of more than 700 tonnes of high-quality goods to tens of thousands of vulnerable individuals and communities in 12 countries worldwide.

Mrs Bluestone is hoping to get help from Hertsmere Borough Council or any local businesses who may have a spare storage unit.

She believes if she can get the funding to expand her charity she will be able to allow those on community service to come and help.

Nathan Decosta, 14, from Borehamwood, volunteers with Goods for Good whilst working towards his Duke of Edinburgh award.

Drawing on his family and friends, Nathan collected huge piles of clothing including t-shirts, trousers, jackets and coats. He even encourage others to donate money.

He said: “Even my brother helps out now and then.

“We have both read a lot about the refugees. I know it costs a lot of time and effort for all these donated clothing and shoes to be sent abroad.”

According to his mum, it was his own idea as he wanted to help collect goods for the thousands of refugees in need.

Mrs Bluestone said: “This is a great thing having these young people working with us.

“I love to get children and teens involved. We encourage these young people to roll the project out amongst their family and friends.

“It’s sometimes the first empowerment project their experience.”

Goods for Goods is a company which takes in brand new, industry seconds or slight used clothing and sends them in container loads to the affected areas.
