A purple-themed tea party will be held to combat polio.
The Rotary Club of Elstree and Borehamwood will be hosting the event at Schopwick Place in High Street, Elstree on Monday, May 1 at 2.30.
Purple jam will be donated by Wilkins of Tiptree and teabags from Typhoo will help the event to run smoothly.
In preparation of the party, the club planted 5000 purple crocus corms on the side of the roundabout in front of the Civic Offices which are now in bloom.
The colour purple was chosen to represent the dye put on children’s fingers to ensure they have had the vaccine.
The disease now only exists in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria thanks to charity campaign.
Tickets will be £10 and are available from club secretary David Clout. Please email (david.clout@btinternet.com) for details.
