An ancient oak tree which had council protection earlier this year has been cut down.
The 300-year-old oak was cut down on the land formerly owned by Hertswood Academy near Thrift Farm Lane in Borehamwood.
Housing developers Bellway have taken out almost all of the vegetation including an ancient orchard.
About six months ago none of the trees were allowed to be pruned as they were give Tree Protection Orders by Hertsmere Borough Council.
In the plans submitted by Bellway no trees were included in the diagrams, and developers will be continuing work on the site.
