A host of stars visited the national autism centre TreeHouse to create unique pieces of art with children last Friday.

Arsenal football stars William Gallas and Cesc Fabregas teamed up with comedian Matt Lucas and author Nick Hornby to paint their feet and walk on canvas with children from the Muswell Hill school.

Some of the artworks created will be auctioned off to raise funds to build sports facilities while the remaining works will go on display in the charity's new National Centre for Autism Education, due to open in October 2008.

Mr Gallas, Arsenal and France defender, said: "It's hugely important to come along and show our support for TreeHouse, which is such an inspiring charity. Interacting with the children and seeing where the money will go from our season working together was very special."

TreeHouse is Arsenal's chosen charity and it is hoped that £250,000 will be raised during the 2007-8 season for sports facilities at the centre.

Mr Hornby, co-founder of the school, in Woodside Avenue, said: "We're hoping these pieces of artwork will find good homes with generous owners. We hope everyone will dig deep when they become available."

TreeHouse chief executive, Ian Wiley, said: "The event has been a fantastic opportunity for the children and we're very grateful for the support we have received from Arsenal Football Club, Matt Lucas and Nick Hornby."

A date has not yet been set for the auction.
